The Competitive Advantages of HCPV

  • Cheaper than traditional PV: The LCOE (electricity cost) will be 20-30% and 50% lower than the one of C-Si in 2011 and 2014 respectively. It is expected to be the first solar technology to reach grid parity.
  • Lower space: An HCPV system requires 40-50% less land than its C-Si equivalent and 70-80% than thin film.
  • Higher efficiency: HCPV panels have an efficiency level 1.5-2 times higher than C-Si and 2.5-5 times higher than thin film.
  • Excellent with hot climates: in very sunny areas with hot weather, the ratio of efficiency loss is only 1/3 of Crystalline Silicon and 1/3 of thin film.
  • Shorter energy payback time: It is 1/4 -1/6 of C-Si and 1/2-1/3 of thin film.
  • Excellent performance in late afternoon: when energy costs are typically the highest.
  • Less age degradation: CPV systems based in triple junction cells have less age degradation than traditional PV or thin film.
  • Totally green: HCPV is pollution free and consumes a very low amount of energy.
